Questions and Answers about Islamic Veil

Miskīn [مِسۡكِيۡن]: A Miskīn is the one who possesses nothing and has to beg others for food to satisfy hunger and clothes to cover the body. Begging is alāl (allowed) for him.

Muftī [مُفۡتِي]: An authorized scholar who is expert in Islamic jurisprudence to answer religious queries.

Na’at [نَعۡت]: Poetic eulogy in praise of the Prophet of mankind, the Peace of our heart and mind, the most Generous and Kind صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.

Nafl [نَفۡل]: Supererogatory act / worship.

Qiblaĥ [قِبۡلَه]: The direction which Muslims face during alāĥ etc.

adaqaĥ [صَدَقَه]: Charity or alms.

alāt/alāt-‘Alan-Nabī  [صَلَاة عَلَي النَّبِي]: Supplication for asking blessings for the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.

Shar’ī [شَرۡعِي]: According to Sharī’aĥ.

Sharī’at/Sharī’aĥ [شَرِيۡعَة]: Commandments of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ and His Noble Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.

Sūraĥ [سُوۡرَة]: Chapter of the Holy Quran.

Ummaĥ [اُمَّة]: Believers of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم as a whole.

Wājib [وَاجِب]: It is an obligation without performing which one will not be freed from obligation and if a Wājib act is missed in worship, that worship will be considered defective; however the worship will be considered performed. Not performing a Wājib once deliberately is a minor sin and leaving it a few times is a grave sin.

Wuū [وُضُو ]: Ritual ablution which is a pre-requisite for alāĥ, awāf and for touching the Holy Quran etc.
